Easy Freezer Meal Tips
1. Batch prepare your freezer meals.
Take an afternoon or a couple of hours to prep multiple freezer meals at a time. Imagine having your whole week of meals prepared, all you have to do is pop it in the oven.
2. Stock up on freezer meal essentials to make everything easy and efficient.
Great For: Marinated meat dishes and soups or dishes with a lot of liquid
Benefit: It takes up less room in your frezer than containers and you can easily label the bags.
Great For: People who struggle putting their ingredients in a freezer bag while at the same time keeping the bag open.
Benefit: These will free up both hands to dump ingredients into the bag. Anything that prevents spills is always a plus in my book.
Before I just call my husband over to hold the bags, now I don’t have to.
- Sharpie Markers to label everything.
Great For: Labeling all your meals.
Benefit: Nothing is worse than trying to figure out what meal is what, especially when you might have prepped it a month ago.
Great For: Casseroles, enchiladas, or anything that you need to pop in the oven.
Benefits: Disposable foil pans make clean up a breeze. Plus, you can make sure all your other dishes are freed up and not just sitting in the freezer.
Note: If you are storing your meals in the freezer for a long time, the cardboard top will probably not be enough to prevent freezer burn. I would wrap some foil or plastic wrap over the top as well.
3. Read the recipe directions carefully.
Some recipes direct you to cook your meals first, then freeze, while others don’t require any cooking before you freeze your meal.
This could make a big difference in how the recipe turns out.
4. Adjust the ingredients or seasoning to your taste.
If you don’t care for a certain ingredient, just swap it out for one you like.
Just don’t go too crazy with the substitutions because it may alter the recipe too much.
5. Label your freezer meals.
If you have tons of freezer meals in your freezer, they can start looking the same. Avoid playing a guessing game and grab a Sharpie and write the name of the meal and date.
Another tip is you can write the cooking directions. (For example Cook 350º for 30 minutes) This way you don’t have to look back at the recipe.
