How to Make 6 Figures
These ideas will help you learn how to make six figures and start on the path to financial freedom.
Remember, making this amount of money can take time, and that’s okay; you can do small things every day to get you to your income goal.
Set an annual income goal and start small.
Six figures is a huge range in money. Making $100k is very different than making $999,999, which is just a dollar away from a million dollars.
Set a goal and make it attainable. You may want to start at the lower end of the six figure salary range, anywhere from $100,000 to $400,000.
You can always adjust your goal later, but setting a $100k goal might be less overwhelming than $800,000.
Change your mindset when it comes to making money.
Your mindset may be what’s holding you back from reaching your money goals and making the income amount you want.
If your inner dialogue about making money sounds anything like the thoughts below, then it’s time to change your mindset.
- I can’t…
- I don’t deserve…
- I’m not smart enough to…
- I’ll never…
So next time you catch yourself saying one of these things, change the thought to something positive.
Instead of saying, “I can never make six figures,” tell yourself, “I can make six figures.”
While this might sound cheesy, mindset is everything.
Go crazy researching your new six figure venture or potential job.
When I first started this blog, which has been my full-time job now for quite some time, I spent months researching.
I researched how other bloggers were making money, and what they did to have a profitable business.
I looked into a ton of potential niches to write about, joined blogging communities on Facebook, and asked many questions.
Whether you plan on starting your own business or landing your dream job that pays well, you must do your homework and know ahead of time what you need to do to reach your goals.
Seek out people who are six figure earners.
Robert T. Kiyosaki mentioned in his book Rich Dad Poor Dad, “Find someone who has done what you want to do. Take them to lunch and ask them for tips and tricks of the trade.”
Now, taking them to lunch isn’t required; of course, the main point is to connect with others already making the amount of income you want to make.
You’ll get so much more information and insider tips than just reading about it on the Internet.
Find a job that pays you 6 figures.
You’re right if you think that’s pretty obvious, but finding a job that pays 6 figures isn’t always easy.
In the next section, I’ll go over some six-figure jobs. Many jobs need advanced college degrees, such as a master’s degree or doctoral degree.
Sometimes, it’s not as easy as “just finding” a six figure job.
Now, that’s not to say it isn’t possible. If it’s a career field that interests you and you have the means and time to go to school for that job, it’s still within your reach.
Those types of jobs are not a get rich quick type of thing. Because really, there aren’t many get rich type jobs that are legit anyway.
Since extra schooling might not be an option or something you even want to do, I’ve also included some ideas to make six figures that don’t require a college degree.

With these jobs, a college degree might be helpful but not necessary. Also, keep in mind that the salary can vary with these jobs.

Real estate agents’ salaries can vary tremendously and many are six figure earners.
Some real estate agents might make $200,000 per year, while others don’t make six figures.

Is 6 Figures Enough Money in 2023?
With high inflation, record-setting gas prices, and expensive cost of living, is earning a six figure salary even enough?
The thing is, there’s no cookie-cutter one size fits all answer to this. As mentioned earlier, a six figure salary can vary by a significant amount.
Is a $100,000 salary enough? What about an $800,000 salary? We aren’t comparing apples to apples here.
These are two very different incomes, even though they are both six figures.
It’s all about finances.
Besides the wide six figure salary range, whether this amount of money is enough for you depends on your finances.
For someone making $100,000 who lives in an affordable part of the US, with one child and a partner who also contributes their income to household expenses, $100,000 is enough.
But say someone has average pay of $500,000 a year and lives in an expensive metropolitan area like New York City.
This person has no kids, but they hardly save any money from their monthly income because of the high cost of living, student loan payments, credit card payments, and more.
This salary is not enough for them. Even though $500k sounds like a lot, it isn’t enough for this person anyway.
Could $500k be enough for you and your financial situation? Yeah, it’s possible.
