15 Healthy Costco Foods You Should Always Buy
Wondering what healthy foods to stock up on during your next Costco trip? I found you the best Costco finds, which are nutritious and will help fuel your day.
From smoothie packs and wild caught salmon to dates and frozen spinach egg white frittatas, I’m sharing some healthy food ideas you’ll want to grab the next time you’re at Costco.
What are your favorite healthy Costco foods you always buy? Please comment; I’d love to hear more ideas!
Frozen Smoothie Packs
Smoothies make great on-the-go breakfasts or a filling snack. This frozen organic super smoothie pack from Clovis Farms will be your new favorite. It has a mix of blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, kale, spinach, and bananas.
It’s much easier to buy this than multiple frozen fruit and veggie bags separately.
Almond Butter
Almond butter is high in protein and perfect for spreading on some apple slices or celery for a healthy snack.
The organic creamy peanut butter is also a great option, and Kirkland organic nut butters are a much better price than at regular grocery stores.
Canned Chicken Breast
Kirkland brand canned chicken in water is one of my favorite pantry staples, along with canned tuna. It’s high in protein and perfect for tossing in a salad or making healthy wraps.
(Canned tuna made it on our list of 100+ Healthy Non-Perishable Food Items To Stock Your Pantry With. This list will help you out so you’ll always have some healthy food on hand for meal prep or emergencies.)
Dates
Dates are high in fiber and nutrients, and their natural sweetness will satisfy your sugar cravings instead of reaching for cookies or candy bars.
One of my favorite ways to eat them is to press a raw almond or walnut into the center of the date, then add a little peanut butter on top. It’s a tasty, sweet snack.
Frozen Wild Caught Salmon
It’s always a great idea to have a bag of frozen salmon in the freezer (along with some frozen veggies).
That way, you can whip up a quick dinner instead of picking up fast food. Salmon is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids and protein.
Pistachios
Pistachios are a nutrient-dense food that’ll help keep you full between meals. Buying unsalted nuts and adding salt or seasonings to them at home is a great way to control your salt intake.
Kirkland offers a wide variety of affordable nut options. If you want to make your own trail mix, buy a few different kinds of nuts and some dried fruit.
Hummus
Made with organic chickpeas and other ingredients, this roasted pine nut hummus is so tasty. Use it to make wraps or sandwiches on whole wheat bread.
If you have a hard time eating enough vegetables for the day, dip them in hummus.
Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
These skinny dipped dark chocolate peanut butter cups are a healthier dessert that will satisfy your sweet tooth. When I saw this big bag at Costco, I had to grab one; they are so good.
You may want to skip this one if you’re entirely avoiding processed food, but if you want something better for you than a donut or ice cream, you should try these.
Hemp Hearts
Sprinkle some hemp hearts on your oatmeal or yogurt, or add them to a smoothie. They’re a fantastic source of protein and healthy fats.
They provide a little extra nutrition boost to whatever food you add them to.
Grape Tomatoes
It probably goes without saying to stock up on veggies when going to Costco. The grape tomatoes are yummy dipped in hummus, and perfect for throwing in a salad.
Zero Sugar Beef Jerky
With 14g of protein per serving, Tillamook zero-sugar beef jerky is another healthy snack option. Pick up a bag to stash at work, in your car, or your pantry.
You never know when you’ll get hungry, and having a high-protein snack will get you through until the next meal.
Fruit Tray
While buying precut fruit or veggie trays like these are more expensive, if you’re the type of person who doesn’t like or has little time to food prep, you might want to pick one of these up.
That way, you’ll have some fresh fruit or veggies to enjoy throughout the week. If you’re on top of meal and snack prepping, you might want to skip this one since it’s pricier than preparing your own fruit or vegetables.
Pumpkin Seeds
A package of these organic pumpkin seeds from Go Raw has just two ingredients: sea salt and pumpkin seeds. That’s it; there’s no oil or additives.
Plus, sprouted seeds are easier to digest and are higher in nutrients than non-sprouted. Of course, any type of pumpkin seed is still healthy, too.
Avocado Oil
Full of heart-healthy fats, avocado oil is one of the best oils to cook with since it has a high smoke point. Since it’s such a neutral-tasting oil, it also is the perfect base for homemade salad dressing.
This one from Marianne’s is 100% avocado oil; there are no filler oils like I’ve seen with some other brands.
Frozen Spinach Egg White Fritattas
On those crazy mornings when you have no time to cook, skip the pastries at Starbucks or fast food line and microwave some frittatas instead.
I was skeptical at first because sometimes frozen microwavable products with eggs can be gross, but I actually really liked these. They were light, fluffy, and delicious with a little salsa served on top.
