Also, don’t miss the bonus ideas at the end of this post, complete with 3 ingredient fat bombs!
What are fat bombs?
The ideal fat bomb should be high in fat, low in carbs and not have too much protein. You’re probably used to seeing them as round little bite size “bombs”, but they can be all different sizes and shapes.
The most important thing is that they are super high in fat. They can be savory or sweet, but this post will just focus on sweet because they can double as yummy desserts!
There really is a wide range of ingredients when it comes to fat bombs.
Here’s a few common ones: cream cheese, almond butter, coconut oil, bacon, peanut butter, avocado, butter, etc.
If you’re low on fat for the day, they are a quick way to get some extra fat fast and are very filling.
While I love having myn for dessert, they also make a great snack or side. Some people even eat a couple to replace a meal. A fat bomb paired with bulletproof coffee actually makes a quite filling breakfast.
Are fat bombs necessary?
Most people equate fat bombs with something you have to eat if you’re on a keto diet. The truth is fat bombs are not necessary to stay in ketosis or have success on your keto diet.
Think of them as nice addition to help boost your fat intake for the day. They’re great as an on the go snack to keep you full until your next meal or have a few as a quick meal replacement.
Are fat bombs healthy?
If you believe the keto diet is healthy, then the answer is yes. Many people who believe fat is bad will think fat bombs are unhealthy.
So, it really depends on who you ask and any diet restrictions you might have.
A great point Craig from ruled.me mentioned is fat bombs are great substitutes for traditionally unhealthy and high sugar foods that are not keto friendly. For example, keto cheesecake fat bombs are so much lower in sugar and carbs than the real thing.
They are an easy way to add healthy fats to your diet and the fact that they are so satisfying will help prevent you from overeating throughout the day.
How many fat bombs can I eat in a day?
This really depends on a lot of things and there is no definite answer. For one, all fat bomb recipes are different and their nutritional information can vary considerably.
These fat bombs are sweet and meant to be a sweet treat. With savory fat bombs made with avocados, cheese, etc., you could probably get away with eating more of them.
The amount you eat a day is really up to you. Just experiment and see what works out best.
Brownie fat bombs are my absolute favorite, but I’m not going to eat ten every day just because they are by definition keto friendly (although I want to hehe).
So bottom line is consuming too many everyday could hinder your weight loss and is something to watch out for. But, there is no reason why you can’t enjoy one (or more hehe) in moderation.
